Exploring the future of climate adaptation at ASPECT’s third User Forum

The three-day event will delve into the most recent advancements in seasonal-to-decadal prediction science and their practical applications in the real world.

Seamless climate predictions bridge the gap between weather predictions and long-term climate projections, providing insights across timescales to support effective decision-making. The ASPECT project seeks to advance Europe’s capability to deliver actionable climate predictions by enhancing models, improving data assimilation, and fostering meaningful exchanges across scientific, policy, and practical application domains. By integrating state-of-the-art science and user-focused approaches, ASPECT aims to empower society with reliable, high-resolution and tailored forecasts.

To this end, the project is holding the third edition of its annual User Forum on 25 to 27 March 2025 at 14:00-15:30 CET, an event dedicated to weaving a tapestry of innovation, collaboration, and advancement around future climate information. The three-day event, focusing on “Advancing climate adaptation with seamless and tailored climate predictions”, explores the latest seasonal-to-decadal prediction science and its real-world applications. It consists of three sessions, dedicated to users and providers of climate services, as well as wider stakeholders and citizens. Registration is now open!

What topics does the event cover?

Day 1 – 25/03/2025, 14.00-15.30: “Understanding seamless climate information”
The first day will explore the scope and benefits of climate predictions, focusing on their role in policy and business decision-making. Designed for anyone—whether part of the Community of Interest or a potential user with limited technical knowledge of climate prediction systems—the session requires no prior experience with climate modeling. It will provide an overview of how climate predictions are generated, interpreted, and applied across various sectors. The contribution of the ASPECT project to advancing climate predictions and decision-making support will also be presented.

Day 2 – 26/03/2025, 14.00-15.30 CET: “Advancing ASPECT project: research and innovation”
The second session will explore the technical modeling and operational choices that underpin climate predictions. It will provide an in-depth overview of the progress made within the ASPECT project, highlighting key advancements and deep-dive applications through case studies discussed with the project’s SuperUser panel. A basic understanding of climate modeling is recommended to follow and contribute to the discussion. Participation from the Community of Practice is particularly encouraged, fostering an interactive exchange on research innovations and their practical applications.

Day 3 – 27/03/2025, 14.00-15.30 CET: “Marketplace for climate prediction products”
The third session will serve as a “matchmaking” platform, connecting those in need of specialized climate predictions with experts developing cutting-edge solutions. Open to all, the session will consist of two panels: the first will showcase existing applications and services from climate prediction providers, while the second will highlight user perspectives, exploring real-world needs and challenges in applying climate predictions. This interactive format aims to foster dialogue, facilitate collaboration, and bridge the gap between supply and demand in the evolving climate services marketplace.

Who can participate?
This event is open to everyone interested in understanding climate predictions and how they can be used to improve decision-making, with no specialised knowledge required to participate: current or potential users of climate information, representatives from public agencies, business owners, or members of a non-governmental organisation.
The User Forum is a vital part of the project’s collective effort to build a resilient future. We aim to inform decisions based on accurate climate predictions and shared knowledge. Here, your insights, experiences, and expertise play a crucial role in shaping a more climate-resilient world.
